What is Pneumoxytol® Sachets

Pneumoxytol® sachets is a food supplement containing Myo-inositol, N-acetyl-L-cysteine and Alpha-lactalbumin with sweetener, useful for providing a supplementary intake of the nutrients it contains in cases of reduced dietary intake or increased nutritional requirements.

What is the physiological role of the components of Pneumoxytol®?

Myo-inositol is a component naturally produced by the human body and involved in the biological mechanisms of several organs. It is a component of pulmonary surfactant which, together with other phospholipids, helps to reduce alveolar surface tension, supporting normal breathing and promoting the repair of damaged alveolar epithelium. Scientific evidence suggests that myo-inositol may contribute to the maintenance of physiological conditions of the mucosa and tissues of the respiratory tract, supporting the body also in the presence of functional alterations associated with pulmonary diseases. Several studies highlight a potential role of myo-inositol in supporting respiratory function in preterm newborns, particularly in relation to the physiological mechanisms involved in respiratory distress syndrome. In addition, myo-inositol has been observed to contribute to the modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokine release, supporting respiratory physiology and confirming the safety profile of its use.

N-acetyl-L-cysteine supports the function and well-being of the respiratory tract in subjects characterized by increased production of dense and viscous mucus. Scientific studies have shown that, thanks to its ability to break disulphide bonds in mucoproteins and the presence of a free thiol group capable of interacting with bonds responsible for mucoprotein aggregation, N-acetyl-L-cysteine may help support the fluidity of bronchial secretions, promoting mucus clearance and reducing the risk of exacerbations. A recent study highlighted that, in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, alterations in myo-inositol metabolism may occur, characterized by reduced activity of enzymes involved in its synthesis and increased activity of enzymes involved in its degradation, such as myo-inositol oxygenase (MIOX). N-acetyl-L-cysteine may reduce MIOX expression, thereby contributing to the restoration of myo-inositol metabolic balance and supporting its physiological pulmonary activity.

Alpha-lactalbumin is a whey protein capable of improving the intestinal absorption of several substances, including Myo-inositol. Scientific studies have shown that this property may be useful in subjects with impaired intestinal absorption, highlighting the role of alpha-lactalbumin in intestinal trophic and mucoprotective processes; therefore, its presence in the body is important for the maintenance of normal physiological functions.
